What do you want from your Exercise Program? by Matthew Romans

It is important when deciding to undertake an exercise program to determine exactly what you want to get out of it, and to have an idea of how you expect to achieve your goals. Many people have different reasons for starting a workout regimen, based on age and a host of other factors. One should do their research and pursue the program that best fits with their level of commitment, their schedule, and their medical history. In order to avoid wasting precious time, effort, and economic resources, one should have a reasonable understanding of the program they are starting, its strengths and weaknesses, and whether success can be attained in a realistic time frame.

There are a lot of different fitness philosophies out there, from CrossFit to Orange Theory, from boot camps to Pilates. Some people are attracted to programs with more of a social element, while others want to believe they are training the way elite athletes supposedly do. Unfortunately, the fitness industry is full of people that make unrealistic and unscientific claims and do not deliver what they promise. Don't fall prey to false advertising! This is why it is so important to do your research before starting an exercise program. There are a few questions that you should ask yourself when deciding which program to choose. Is it safe? Is it effective? Is it backed by science? Is there a measurable way to track progress?

There is one exercise philosophy that answers all of those questions in the affirmative: Total Results. Ours is the only exercise protocol that is completely consistent with all of the classical sciences, and we have nearly twenty years of client success to support us. Our slow speed of movement and careful change of direction make your workout safer than stepping off a curb, and high-intensity weight training is the most effective way to build strength, increase cardiovascular and metabolic conditioning, strengthen bones, protect against injury, and aid in the pursuit of fat loss. We keep detailed records of your progress for every exercise of every workout, and we take circumference and body composition measurements when you start our program, and every few months afterward. Every workout is supervised by an educated and conscientious instructor who is committed to lifelong learning and to your success, and he will monitor form discrepancies, body positioning and alignment, and will provide immediate feedback. Most importantly, we instill in every client the importance of accountability and responsibility. Every session is conducted in a private and impeccably clean facility on biomechanically correct exercise equipment manufactured by MedX and Super Slow Systems.

Some people might not be a good fit at Total Results. If you expect your exercise program to be fun, we are probably not the right place for you. Brief, high-intensity weight training workouts are hard work and often uncomfortable and unpleasant. Simply put, it's not fun; we tell our clients that during their initial consultation, so that there are no illusions. Do you want immediate results? Nothing worthwhile comes automatically. At Total Results you will see evidence of progress toward your goals in six to eight weeks, but do not expect miracles. If you expect immediate (ex. 2 weeks) success, you will be disappointed. Do you expect to perform "cardio" (more accurately, steady-state activity) as part of your program? You won't find that at Total Results. You can improve your cardiovascular and metabolic conditioning to a much greater degree by working as intensely as possible in each exercise and moving purposefully between exercises than you can by performing an arbitrary amount of biking or running. Finally, if you think that just showing up and working with a trainer a couple of times a week will get you results, Total Results is not for you. Our instructors are not "workout caddies" that just carry around a tablet and chat with you during your workout. We educate you and instruct you, and our purpose is to help you focus on getting the most effective workout in the least amount of time. You are paying for results, not time spent in the gym.

Let me reiterate that there are a lot of different fitness programs available out there, and some of them have positive qualities while others do not. The beauty of this country, at least for the time being, is that the individual has the ability to make his or her own choices based on their needs and desires. The Total Results exercise philosophy is an intellectual improvement upon the old Nautilus philosophy of the 1970s, and is radically different from any approach that you will find in the exercise industry today. One simply has to ask themself what they truly want and expect from their exercise program. If you expect attention to detail, quality instruction, and a real plan of action to help you safely and efficiently achieve your goals, then Total Results is exactly what you're looking for. Get on the path to success today.
